La Ruka mostly sings about women, Afro-descendent women, and day-to-day life on the Pacific Coast of Colombia, mainly the Buenaventura area where she originated from.
Despite her extensive carrier, she still sings in Colombian and Spanish public transports, carrying her speaker around her neck and improvising about people and cultures surrounding her.
“Ya Es Hora Pacifico” – Galletas Calientes Records “Colombian Singles Series Vol. 4” – is probably the first collection of songs entirely dedicated to her raw talent; an EP compiling Dembow, Afrobeats, Hip-Hop and Salsa Choke produced by beatmakers from Colombia, U.S.A and the U.K., released May 2025.
“En La Isla”, the first song taken from this project, released January 24, 2025, is a celebratory, upbeat anthem that seamlessly blends danceable Dembow beats and ancestral sounds with heartfelt lyrics about celebrating love, encounters, life, and the power of music to transport us to sunnier, happier places. “En La Isla” was produced by Lanzapro (Palmira, Valle Del Cauca, Colombia)

Hailing from the Pacific coast of Colombia, La Ruka is a key figure on the country’s music scene. Blending hip-hop, salsa, Afro-Colombian roots and a wide variety of urban Latin genres in her songs, the now Barcelona-based singer is known for her powerful storytelling and the raw energy she puts in every project she’s involved in.
With iconic songs such as “No Quiero Marido”, “Todo Es Plata” and her numerous appearances in successful projects like Malecon, Sultana or La Suculenta Chirrimia, La Ruka has been in the game for more than 20 years, and she was singing Salsa Choke before anyone else.
