Legendary soukous guitarist Bopol Mansiamina from the Congo was in Bogota this July 2017 to record some musical pieces with Lucas Silva of Palenque Records. I took this opportunity to interview him about Colombiafrica Orchestra and his special relationship with Colombia. Colombiafrica Orchestra “finds Colombian champeta stars Viviano Torres, Luis Towers and Justo Valdez jamming with African legends Dally Kimoko, Diblo Dibala, Sékou Diabaté, Nyboma and Rigo Star, bringing Afro-Colombian grooves back home to African soil.”

In our forthcoming “Palenque Records Afrocolombia Remix Vol. 2”, many songs by Colombiafrica are revisited by talented producers from the international “Global Bass” scene. Among other things, we talked about soukous music, Colombia, and San Basilio de Palenque…

Special thanks to Bopol Mansiamina, Lucas Silva of Palenque Records, Daniel Michel of Mambo Negro Records (who is also backing up Bopol with the bass), and Juan Pablo Varela “Dirty Salsa” for the great animation he did with our logo.
