_DSC0091(1)Meridian Brothers is a tropical psychedelic band from Colombia, created in Bogotá by Eblis Alvarez in 1998. At first, the project consisted exclusively of its creator’s experiments with sampling techniques and alternative ways of playing instruments and electronic media. Heavily influenced by Latin rock, these early recordings were distributed by cassette on the underground music market. From a conceptual band in which Alvarez played all the instruments, Meridian Brothers evolved into a live combo, gradually venturing into more tropical sounds. With Maria Valencia (saxophone, clarinet, percussion and synthesizers), Damian Ponce (percussion), Cesar Quevedo (bass) and Alejandro Forero (electronics and synthesizers), the band began to explore sub genres such as vallenato, highlife, champeta and cumbia.
Their unique blend of surf rock, tropical and psychedelic music, sampling and sound experiments, along with a strong theatrical identity involving fake characters who express deep human reality, make Meridian Brothers a totally unclassifiable musical project.
The band has released five albums and two singles on labels such as La distritofónica, El Hombre De La Flecha Records, the New York label Names You Can Trust and the British label Soundway Records.
